FAQs: Hidden places in Al Wakrah

What is there to do in Al Wakrah?

The main draw is Souq Al Wakrah and its beach: a rebuilt seafront souq, seafood restaurants, a family beach and low-tide shore walks, with the old pearling town behind. It is about 19 km south of central Doha.

How do I get to Al Wakrah from Doha?

Take the Doha Metro Red Line to Al Wakra station, then a Metrolink feeder bus or a short taxi to the souq, or drive; no 4x4 is needed.

Is Al Wakrah beach good for families?

Yes, the public beach beside the souq is designed for families, with shaded seating, children's play areas and sports areas. Wear modest swimwear and water shoes for the rocky shore, and follow the rules posted at the entrance.

When is the best time to visit Al Wakrah?

Late afternoon into the evening from October to April, when the souq shops open and the lanterns come on along the promenade. In summer, families still visit after dark, when the seafront catches a breeze.

Is the Inland Sea in Al Wakrah?

Khor Al Adaid falls within Al Wakrah municipality, but it is reached from Sealine, south of Mesaieed, so we list it under Sealine & Inland Sea. There is no road to the water, so you need a 4x4 or a tour: see our Inland Sea guide.
