FAQs: Hidden places in Dukhan & West Coast

What is there to do on Qatar's west coast?

The Zekreet Peninsula has the mushroom rocks, Richard Serra's East-West/West-East, Film City and the Ras Abrouq area of the Al Reem Biosphere Reserve. Further south, Umm Bab Beach is known for its palms and sunsets.

Is Zekreet Film City open?

Film City usually opens only during Visit Qatar's winter event at Ras Abrouq, and outside it the gates are often closed. In 2025–26 it opened as part of Brouq Season from 26 November 2025.

Do I need a 4x4 for the Zekreet Peninsula?

During Brouq Season, event guides said a normal car usually manages the signposted route, though an SUV is more comfortable. Soft sand and off-track areas need a 4x4, and the northern area is gated outside events.

Can I camp at Umm Bab Beach?

People camp at Umm Bab in winter, but camping is regulated by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, so check the season dates and registration rules first.

How far is the west coast from Doha?

The Zekreet Peninsula is roughly 80–90 km from central Doha along the Dukhan Highway, and Umm Bab is about 25 km south of Dukhan.
