FAQs: Hidden places in Sealine & Inland Sea

Can I reach Sealine Beach in a normal car?

Yes, the road to Sealine is paved all the way, and Visit Qatar puts the drive at around 40 minutes from Doha. You only need a 4x4, lowered tyre pressure and experience to drive into the dunes.

Do I need a 4x4 to visit the Inland Sea?

Yes, there is no road to Khor Al Adaid, and the crossing from Sealine is over open dunes. Book a tour unless you have dune-driving experience, a capable 4x4 and a second vehicle.

Can you camp at the Inland Sea?

Overnight camping falls under the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's seasonal permit system, and for 2025–26 private permits were limited to Qatari nationals aged 25 and over. Most visitors stay overnight through a tour operator's camp instead.

Is it safe to swim in the Inland Sea?

The lagoon is usually calm, warm and shallow at the edge, and Visit Qatar describes it as safe for swimming, but there are no lifeguards or facilities. Swim with others and watch for currents where the channel narrows.

What are the Singing Sand Dunes?

Crescent dunes inland of Mesaieed, about 40 km south-west of Doha, whose sand can hum when it slides. Dry late afternoons in winter give you the best chance of hearing them.

Is there phone signal at the Inland Sea?

Not reliably. If you drive yourself, travel with a second vehicle, carry recovery gear and tell someone your plans.
