What is there to see in Umm Salal?

Umm Salal Mohammed, about 20 km north of Doha, has two heritage landmarks: Barzan Towers, a pair of century-old watchtowers, and Umm Salal Mohammed Fort, built around 1910. Both can currently be seen only from outside.

Is Simaisma Beach open?

No, Simaisma Beach has been closed since June 2025 for a major redevelopment. You can still see the old pearling town, and Al Farkiya in Al Khor is a good alternative family beach.

Can you go inside Barzan Towers?

Not at the moment, as the site is temporarily closed. When it is open, entry has been free with no ticket, so check Qatar Museums before you go.

What is Darb Al Saai?

Darb Al Saai is the venue for Qatar National Day celebrations in Umm Salal Mohammed, held around 18 December with heritage activities, performances and food. Check dates on the official National Day channels.

How far is Umm Salal from Doha?

About 20 km north of central Doha, usually 20–30 minutes by car depending on traffic. It pairs easily with a trip further north to Al Khor.
