Overview

Sealine Beach, a Murwab Resort, sits where the sand dunes south of Mesaieed run down to the sea, about 55 km from central Doha. It is a low-rise beach resort of rooms, chalets and villas spread along the shore, with pools, a spa and a handful of restaurants, and it is the natural base for dune bashing, camel rides and trips to the Inland Sea. The resort describes itself as Qatar’s first leisure destination, and it has been a weekend fixture for Doha families for many years.

What makes it different from the city hotels is the setting: dunes behind you, the Gulf in front, and desert activities a few minutes away. What makes it different from the newer luxury resorts is the feel. This is a relaxed, family-oriented place rather than a glossy one, and prices are generally more approachable.

Is it worth it for a weekend? If you want an easy beach-and-desert break within 45 minutes of Doha, with room for the children to run around and the option of an afternoon in the dunes, yes. If you are expecting the design and polish of the newest five-star resorts, adjust your expectations and read recent reviews for the room type you are considering. This guide covers the resort itself; for the free public beach next door, see our separate guide to Sealine Beach, Mesaieed.

The story behind the resort

Mesaieed grew up from the 1940s and 1950s as Qatar’s oil and industrial port, and later as its main industrial city. Just south of it, the coast changes completely: the flat industrial zone gives way to tall, pale dunes that continue towards Khor Al Adaid, the Inland Sea, on the Saudi border. The Sealine area became Doha’s playground for desert driving, and the beach resort grew up alongside it.

Today the resort is owned by Katara Hospitality, the state-backed hotel company, and managed by Murwab Hotel Group, which added “a Murwab Resort” to its name. Murwab also runs a sister property on the north-east coast, Simaisma, a Murwab Resort. The Sealine resort remains one of the few places to stay on this stretch of coast, so it doubles as a base for desert tours and Inland Sea trips.

What to expect

  1. Rooms, chalets and villas

The resort’s website lists 35 standard rooms, two Murwab Suites, 20 chalets, 20 ocean-view villas, 16 duplex executive villas and two duplex royal villas. Rooms suit couples and short stays. Villas are where families and groups usually go: a 2020 review by New in Doha described a three-bedroom ocean villa of 187 square metres for up to six people, with a patio, garden, barbecue and direct beach access, but noted that the kitchen had very limited cookware. Visit Qatar says some villas have private pools. Check the exact layout and pool situation before booking.

  2. Beach and pools

The resort faces a long, shallow sandy beach, and there is an outdoor pool and a family pool area. The dunes behind the resort make a striking backdrop. There is a supervised playground for children, according to Visit Qatar.

  3. Desert and water activities

This is the resort’s big advantage. It lists desert safaris, water sports, camel riding and horse riding, and football and basketball facilities; Visit Qatar adds tennis. Outside the resort, the dunes around Sealine are the main area for dune bashing, quad biking and trips to Khor Al Adaid, and many tour operators start or pass here. If you book a desert safari, use a licensed operator and confirm pick-up from the resort.

  4. Food and drink

The resort lists Al Odaid for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a Friday brunch with Arabian and international food, La Merenda for Italian food and wood-fired pizza, and Reef & Burger for seafood and burgers in a casual setting. Visit Qatar also mentions The Edge, a lounge. In-room dining is available. There is little else to eat nearby, so plan to have most meals at the resort or bring snacks for the villa.

  5. Spa and fitness

Inara Spa offers massages and beauty treatments, and there is a gym. It is a pleasant extra rather than a destination spa, useful for an afternoon when it is too hot for the beach.

  6. Day use for non-guests

The resort offers day-use packages that give non-guests access to the pool and beach, sometimes with a meal. Offers change often: for example, Kids Love Qatar reported a Friday special pass at QAR 150 from 3pm in June 2026. Call the resort or check its offers page for current prices and inclusions before you drive down.

Who it suits, and who it doesn’t

Families are the resort’s main audience, and villas with a garden and beach access are ideal for children.

Groups of friends can combine a villa stay with an afternoon of dune bashing or quad biking, then a barbecue by the beach.

Couples will enjoy the dunes at sunset and a quiet weekday stay, but may prefer a newer resort for a special occasion.

Anyone who dislikes industrial scenery should know that the drive passes Mesaieed’s industrial area. Once you are at the resort, the views are of dunes and sea.

How much does it cost?

Rates vary by room type, season and weekend demand, and the resort frequently runs packages. We have not found a reliable, recent rate range to quote, so check current rates directly with the resort. As a rule, weekday stays and summer months cost less.

How to get there

From central Doha, allow around 45 minutes to an hour for the 55 km drive.

  1. Head south from Doha towards Hamad International Airport and Al Wakrah.
  2. Follow the signs for Mesaieed and continue on the main road towards the town.
  3. Follow the signs for Sealine Beach, which lead south past Mesaieed to the coast, where the road ends at the beach and resort area.

The route is paved all the way to the resort, so any car is fine. Only take a vehicle onto the dunes with proper equipment and experience, or go with a licensed tour operator. There is no public transport to the resort; a taxi or ride-hailing car from Doha is possible, but arrange your return in advance. The resort lists an airport shuttle service; ask when booking.

Best time to visit

November to March is the best time for both the beach and the desert. The dunes are pleasant in the late afternoon, and sunsets over the sand are the highlight of a stay. In December and January evenings can be cool and windy, so pack a layer.

From May to September the heat is intense and desert activities are best limited to early morning or after sunset. Weekends, especially Friday afternoons, are busiest, with day visitors and dune-bashing traffic on the Sealine road. Stay midweek for the calmest experience.

Tips for your visit

  • Book a villa if you are more than two people; the extra space and garden make the stay.
  • Bring basic kitchen supplies if you plan to cook or snack in a villa.
  • Arrange desert activities in advance through the resort or a licensed operator.
  • Check the day-use offer before you go; packages change with the season.
  • Use sand-proof bags for phones and cameras if you head into the dunes.
  • Pick up snacks or supplies in Mesaieed on the way, as options near the resort are limited.
  • Walk up the dunes behind the resort at sunset for the best views, but stay away from areas used by vehicles.
  • Carry ID for everyone in the car, as for any trip outside the city.
Insider tip: Book an early-morning desert trip to Khor Al Adaid from the resort. You beat the heat and the crowds, reach the Inland Sea in soft morning light, and are back at the pool by lunchtime.

What to bring

  • Swimwear, sunscreen and a hat
  • Sandals and closed shoes for the dunes
  • A warm layer for winter evenings
  • Sand-proof bags for electronics
  • Basic kitchen supplies if staying in a villa
