Frequently asked questions
What places does Qatar Unseen cover?
Quiet beaches, desert landmarks, forts, mangroves and public art across Qatar, from Al Zubarah in the north to the Inland Sea in the south. New places are added regularly.
Which hidden places can I visit without a 4x4?
Many: Al Zubarah, Purple Island, Al Farkiya, Sealine Beach, the main beach at Umm Bab and the Singing Sand Dunes (if you park by the road) are all reachable in a normal car. Each guide says what vehicle you need.
Which places need a 4x4?
The dune crossing to the Inland Sea and the final stretch to Dahl Al Misfir cave need a 4x4, as does any driving on soft sand. If you don't have one, book a licensed tour.
When is the best time to visit Qatar's hidden places?
November to March is best for beaches, desert and heritage sites. In summer, go early in the morning or around sunset, and carry plenty of water.
Are the places free to visit?
Most are: public beaches, open-air art and natural sites have no ticket. Al Zubarah is free but needs a booked ticket, while events such as Brouq Season and guided tours are paid.
Are all the places open?
Not all. Several heritage sites are temporarily closed, Simaisma Beach is closed for redevelopment and Fuwairit Beach closes from 1 April to 1 August for turtle nesting, so check each guide's status notes.
